Doctor Drum is a proud native of Long Beach. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1975 and performed his undergraduate work at USC. Inspired by a skiing accident that left him in a leg cast in 1971, Dr. Drum’s mind and energy drifted towards the medical field. He earned his MD degree from Northwestern University School of Medicine in 1984, and did his postdoctoral work at his cross-town rival UCLA. Doctor Drum completed his Medical Boards in Internal Medicine and returned to Long Beach in 1988. He joined Memorial Medical Group which later merged with Healthcare Partners. Together with Dr. Chrysanthis, they both decided to open their own Internal Medical group- Memorial Sports and Internal Medicine in May of 2003. Fifty percent of what Dr. Drum does in the office is devoted to the field of Internal Medicine. Caring for patients with diabetes, treating elevated cholesterol and hypertension, acute illnesses and performing yearly physicals fills most of his day. As their name implies, sports medicine remains the other field of expertise for Dr. Drum. He has been the Medical Director for Long Beach State University since 1987 where he cares for all division I athletes. In 1998 he joined the staff of USA Water Polo Inc. and became their Medical Director and Team Physician for the last 3 Summer Olympic Games. In fact, Dr. Drum has traveled to nearly 50 countries and has treated America’s top athletes at World Championships, Olympic Games, Pan American Games and qualifying events. Doctor Drum is an avid golfer, runner, marathon runner and triathlete. He is a proud father of 3 wonderful sons. Travis, who attends the Music Institute in Hollywood, aspires to become a professional drummer. Ryan, who you will see working in the office, attends Cypress College and works in the Long Beach State Training Room. He is big on working out and swimming. Matthew attends Los Alamitos High School and competes in swimming and water polo. He loves playing his guitar and like most kids earning his PhD in video games. |
